The Michigan Federation of College Democrats Rejects Judge Brett Kavanaugh as Supreme Court Nominee

Lansing, Michigan-- September 28, 2018-- The Michigan Federation of College Democrats hereby releases a statement of condemnation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh as a nominee for the United States Supreme Court. As a voice for college students across the state of Michigan, we recognize that Judge Kavanaugh poses an enormous threat to our democratic processes and we reject his nomination on the grounds that his confirmation would send a dangerous message to not only to politicians, but to sexual aggression survivors across the country.

We extend our gratitude to Senator Debbie Stabenow and Senator Gary Peters of Michigan for rejecting Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination and standing with the survivors. Their support of the survivors is critical to the preservation of our democratic values and beliefs and we thank them for their commitment to justice.

As an organization, we offer our support to Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, Deborah Ramirez, and Julie Swetnick, as well as all survivors of sexual aggression and assault. We believe in the accusations against Judge Kavanaugh and stand with the women who have come forth and spoken out against the actions of Judge Kavanaugh.

Sexual assault is endemic among college campuses and confirming Judge Kavanaugh sends a dangerous messages to young men and women across the nation. We, as an organization of college-aged men and women, are committed to speaking out against Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation, as well as speaking up for survivors.
